“Serves her right” Mixed reactions trail singer, Tems’ Oscars loss

At the 2023 Oscars event held at the Dolby Theatre, Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles, US, there were differing reactions following singer Tems’ Oscar loss.

Tems was nominated for “Best Original Song” for her role in “Lift me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, according to Kemi Filani.

Regrettably, “NAATU NAATU” from the popular Telugu film RRR won the award instead of the quickly growing vocalist.

By being the first Indian cinema song to win an Oscar, NAATU NAATU made history.

Tems is included in a new song by Rihanna.

Remember that after her 2016 album Anti, Rihanna had just released her first solo song since then, ‘Lift Me Up’ for the film ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Tems, Rihanna, Ludwig Göransson, and the movie’s director, Ryan Coogler, all contributed to the song’s writing. It pays homage to the late Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman, who passed away in 2020 following a personal fight with colon cancer that he was diagnosed with in 2016.

The singer’s lose has left the internet divided as many noted how NAATU NAATU deserves the win, while others expressed disappointment at the lose.

One Okwy_mfb wrote, “Abeg this Oscar people can never see anything nice in our music and videos even when they know it is the best of them all. Well done Tems, me I appreciate all ur efforts. God bless ur handwork sis

One Love Davido wrote, “Serves her right cause she dey form wetin I know no…she win Grammy she no fit post am or even acknowledge her fans or even post it on her story she dey form matured

One Ojie Carter wrote, “The Oscar hardly wanna recognize black people. Either way is good for her resume

One Bibire wrote, “Naatu Naatu deserves it, lift me up is good but don’t disresoy Naatu Naatu. Maybe y’all should go back and watch RRR then you can compare

One Fiyin Ojo wrote, “But why. I feel lift me up is better

Despite the lose, Tems can always comfort herself with the Grammys
