On Friday, Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike placed a ban on all activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra forever, this came in shortly after the governor reminded the people that the FG has already termed the group as a terrorist organization. It will do more harm in allowing them Carry out their activities in the state as emphasized by the Rivers state governor.
The ban was placed after the incidence of violence at Oyigbo and other attacks in some parts of the state. That brought about the 24 hours curfew placed on the state afterwards.
Nevertheless, the Police command reported that the curfew didn't stop them in carrying out nefarious acts, as no fewer that 500 of IPOB members destroyed two police stations and burnt 15 vehicles and an armoured personnel carrier.
Violence has continued in Oyigbo since Thursday, many fled for their lives until the Government of Rivers state had to step into with Swift action to restore peace and sanity. A lot of properties and vehicles had been burnt in the state, many people got injured too.
The governor announced that no form of movement or agitation of the IPOB group is allowed to take place from henceforth.
According to him;
“Security agencies are hereby directed to stop any form of procession or agitation by IPOB in Rivers State or any part thereof and arrest and prosecute any person or group that identifies with the membership or activities of IPOB in the State; Government will issue an executive order to strengthen and ensure the effective enforcement of these measures”
Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike also emphasized that the state is open for business and it's hospitable.
“I wish to appeal to the people of Oyigbo Local Government Area to remain calm and not to take the laws into their hands despite the intense provocation as government has the capacity to deal with the challenge and ensure the safety of lives and property in the Local Government Area. We will soon carry out on the spot inspection and assessment of the destruction they have suffered and take appropriate measures to mitigate the loss and damage caused to lives and property” he said.
Finally, the governor declared Mr. Stanley Mgbere from onne wanted for leading members of the banned IPOB to unleash violence and destroy properties in onne, eleme local government. A sum of fifty million naira (50,000,000) will be issued to anyone that has reliable information that will lead to the arrest of Mr. Stanley Mgbere.
