The Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy plans to reduce the price of data from 1000 naira to 390 naira per gb, this statement was issued by the Executive Vice Chairman of Nigeria Communication Commision, Umar Danbatta.
Mr Umar Danbatta in his address said, "the ministry was tasked to come up with a digital economy policy and strategies, adding that all efforts was being put in place to make data more affordable, to reduce it to 390 naira as against the normal 1000 naira network providers charge.
He said the price was brought down to 1000 naira per gigabyte but the government expects the price to call to 390 naira in the next 3-5 years.
We need pervasive broadband data infrastructure because at the landing point in Lagos, where we have all the submarine cables. We are indeed pursuing the plan. There is infrastructure and company licensing framework that could give the companies the ability to afford to sell the data to the retail agents, who will sell the data to the citizens,” he explained.
